CTD with 4th Window

Post by TheChief » Mon Jan 24, 2005 11:21 am

For some reason, I'm now CTD with my fourth window. I've been playing four-windows for weeks now and I even played a LDON late last night with all four. This morning however, one of the four sessions crashes after less than three 3 minutes every time I try.

I haven't changed anything since last night.

Now each session is crashing to the desktop. One by one. It leaves one session running. This is crazy! Nothing has changed on my computer. I tried opening the window, maybe it's the heat?

I've turned of all my "extra" EQ utilities, rebooted. Ran windows update, rebooted. Disabled second monitor, rebooted. Nothing is working. I have no idea what changed from last night to this morning, but something is very angry at me. Any thoughts, or ideas?

Narrowed the problem to WinEQ as I can log in and keep four up with the regular everquest alt-tab solution. I hate it, but for testing purpsoes, it seems to work. I'm going to try a different version of WinEQ so see if I can narrow it down.

It's now working with WinWQ 1.38 without EQPlayNice running. Now I'm going to try it with EQPlayNice.

Alright, it's plays nice with WinEQ 1.38 and EQPlayNice.

So, there is something with WinEQ2.0 that's killing me :) I'm going to try uninstalling WinEQ2.0 and reinstalling it to see what happens, though I certainly wouldn't cry if someone chimed in with an answer :)

Hmmm, well.. WinEQ 2.0 hasn't been patched since the 19th. I assume you got that patch long before last night ;) To that effect, if it was working the day before I don't know why it wouldnt work today. Possibly bad RAM? :( If you did patch it just today, then you can try fiddling with the "Multithreaded Window" setting.

On the other hand, if you can get the address of the crash, I may be able to track it down if it's within WinEQ.

It's the latest version. It's the strangest thing. I've been playing all day with WinEQ 1.38, but I get tons of crashes with WinEQ 2.0. Nothin changed from last night. I even reinstalled WinEQ 2.0. This is strangeness. Oh well, 1.38 works well enough, although it's turning out to be a PITA to get the EQ Playnice settings just right.

The EQPN settings for 1.38 are exactly the same as WinEQ 2.0. The only difference is the EQPlayNice.ini is stored in the WinEQ2 directory instead of the EQPlayNice directory ;) Also, EQPlayNice automatically re-reads EQPlayNice.ini when it is modified during play, so you can make changes and then see the effects immediately without re-logging.

Good to know. I'll just copy the ini from the WinEQ2 directory and it shoudl work fine. Also, didn't realize that the changes were immediate. Thanks for the info.
