Still Crashing Off-and-on with 2.03 with EQ1

Post by Coach3K » Thu Nov 18, 2004 5:53 pm

I posted a problem earlier this week about client crash problems with 2 instances up in 2 windows.

I was excited to see the problem addressed in 2.03.

I logged in this afternoon (Thurs 18th)to make sure it all works fine and had mixed results.

When logging into 2nd window, things mostly went smoothly. In about 15 tries, both loaded up without a problem 14 times. The bad time was when I was on 2nd window, which loaded up in "Normal" mode...I Shift+Rclicked to get the menu to go to Full Screen Emulated, and it spontaneously crashed when I selected full screen.

That was the only problem while loading.

The other times, I again ran into problems when switching between windows with CTRL+Alt 1/2.

I THINK I may have found the reason.

In testing, ALT+Tab to switch windows did not result in ANY crashes...in 200+ repetitions of switching between windows. That's the good news. That means I think it's playable.

The problem is when I use the default hotkeys (CTRL+ALT 1, and CTRL+ALT 2) to switch. I have a feeling that I may have done it too fast...when I was very deliberate and paused between switches (like I would usually do in-game), I think I only got a client crash twice.

The other crashes seemed to come when I would hold CTRL and ALT down and just push 1 & 2 in repetition to switch windows.

I did some reading and found:
* Fixed issue with sticky keys. Consequently, all keys you were holding at the time of switching to a new window will have to be re-pressed if you wish to use them again. This means, for example, that if you usually hold CTRL+ALT and tapping X to switch between sessions with the default hotkeys, you now will only switch once. You must let go of CTRL+ALT and press them again.
from the notes for this release, and wondered if that may have something to do with it.

In any case, there are still instances where I can consistently cause a client crash at will...and I can try to avoid doing things like fast-window-switching in game, but it may come up if I switch fast to a slower, cast fast, then back to tank.

Just giving some info so you can get this sealed down as tightly as possible. I'll just try to use Alt Tab for now and keep excess programs in the background off so I don't accidentally try to switch from Main window to WindowTWO and end up looking at MSN.com. :)

Info again from both windows, if it'll be helpful:

The sticky keys only affect the WinEQ hotkeys, not the registered Windows hotkeys (e.g. global activation hotkeys). Thanks for the detailed report, I will see what I can do to nail this thing down
