"Tip" lag fixed with reinstall, one problem remain

Post by Venthos » Tue Nov 16, 2004 9:48 am

Used that Driver Cleaner 3 I had used last time months ago to fix the BSOD that was rampant for nvidia users, and that problem with the windows "Tips" bogging my CPU usage to 92%+ went away for me.

HOWEVER

A problem still remains.

It seems half the time that I start up EQ through WinEQ2, it fucks up in how it starts.

My current window position for my EQ windows leaves but a sliver of the titlebar of the window left at the very top. No other borders or anything are visible.

When WinEQ fucks up half the time on start, the window appears in what I assume is default position. I can move the mouse at a severely lagged rate for about 5 seconds (seems like the CPU is taxing itself out at this point) before it bombs and crashes out.

Restarting fixes this. It happens like I say, half the time. I run up to 3 EQ's on my machine. It does it when im starting up the 1st and have no others open (even off a fresh boot for the first time) or if i have 1 or 2 already open. Just seems half the time WinEQ just convulses and doesn't "Start" right and then just bogs down the CPU for a second before crashing.

Next time it happens i'll see what logs I can post.

Oh, and where it bogs down and crashes when it messes up is right off the bat. At the Disagree/Agree EULA screen.

Heh, just went to start up a 2nd instance and reliably like I said, half the time it bombs.

its like an odd number of starts and it gets angry in the pants!

Anyways, here's the info:

I need to stop posting things without experimenting further.

It APPEARS that this may be something having to do with MQ2. And its happening multiple times in a row now.

Upon attempting a Debug the angries message is

"Unhandled exception in eqgame.exe (MQ2MAIN.DLL): 0xC0000005: Access Violation."

Debug gets angry at this line marked with ***'s:

Code: Select all

BOOL SetMQ2KeyBind(PCHAR name, BOOL Alternate, KeyCombo &Combo)
{
	if (MQ2KeyBind *pBind=KeyBindByName(name))
	{
		CHAR szName[MAX_STRING]={0};
		CHAR szBuffer[MAX_STRING]={0};
		if (!Alternate)
		{
			sprintf(szName,"%s_Nrm",pBind->Name);
******	pBind->Normal=Combo;
		}
		else
		{
			sprintf(szName,"%s_Alt",pBind->Name);
			pBind->Alt=Combo;
		}
		WritePrivateProfileString("Key Binds",szName,DescribeKeyCombo(Combo,szBuffer),gszINIFilename);
		return true;
	}
	return false;
}
Hope this helps. Should I post this on MQ2 Boards as well or no?

Nope, you should just go read the mq2custombinds first post and fix the plugin since it's a bug with how that plugin was written ;)

I posted a fix for that module in the modules thread on the appropriate board several weeks ago
