EQ1 - Client Crashes switching Windows

Post by Coach3K » Mon Nov 15, 2004 4:03 pm

GAME: EverQuest 1

VERSION: WinEQ 2.0

ISSUE: Once 2 windows of EQ1 are opened, switching between them (Alt/TAB, CTRL/ALT/1(2) - doesn't matter how) causes one of the windows to eventually crash and spit out the Everquest client crash dialogue box ("Report? Yes/No etc.).

This does NOT require me to exit to server select screen to change characters, then log back in, to occur. This is happening when logging directly into ONE character on MAIN window then directly to another single character on the WindowTWO window.

I haven't had the 2nd window for more than 5 minutes at a time without one of them crashing. Sometimes it's within 3-4 window switches, and sometimes it takes 20-30 (boy, do I get my hopes up on these), but it's consistent: I cannot run 2 windows on same machine without client crashing after a random period of time.

I've had troubles with this for a few weeks but haven't multi-boxed on same machine much lately. I hoped it would be fixed with updates.

TROUBLESHOOTING: I originally ran MAIN window off of Everquest directory, and WindowTWO off of "Everquest2" directory. That was my original setup and problem started with that configuration. Tried changing WindowTWO to run off of same exe in Everquest directory but tied to a separate eqclient file...and problem remains.

May be irrelevant: In testing this morning, I was down to about 25MB of system RAM available when opening 2nd window and playing 2 characters. I thought this might be the problem (low system RAM).

But after updating to newest ATI display drivers this afternoon, I'm suddenly running more efficiently somehow, and actually have 190-195 MB of system RAM available, with over 300 video RAM still available with both windows running. I didn't know simply updating video drivers could change the RAM usage so drastically, but that's all that changed on my system from the 25MB available display this morning to the 195MB available amount this afternoon. And the crashing problem still exists (so the Low RAM theory seems to not stick).

Just noticed that I have Vertex shaders, etc. running on the 2nd window - don't imagine they would cause the error but will turn those to match Main window settings.

Most everything else should be in the SysInfo docs below. FIRST is my main window info, and then my 2nd instance info. Both are manual dumps created before either window crashed, but while both were up and running simultaneously.

Adding Module at end, in case this is useful.
