EQ Mouse Conversion ?

Post by Kaycee » Mon Oct 24, 2005 1:51 am

Howdies ;0

I was wondering if they do manage to push the new mouse code live to the EQ servers will this essentially put some extended downtime into wineq 1 and 2 for the recoding process (Will wineq1 basically become dead with this change?) or have preparations been made for this ? I was just curious as to what to expect when that day does arrive.

Keep up the good work ;0 and have a good one :)

Unfortunately I cant really force the fixes for this onto the people using the live servers because they'll inevitably moan about things being broken. I suspect everything should be under control here within a day of the patch. The update is scheduled for this Wednesday, so I'll plan on having things working on my end by then, with a patch of WinEQ on Wednesday to follow up the EQ patch. There might be a problem with the european server(s?) if they still patch a day or two later than the US servers. Either way, this change is going to annoy some people for at least a day ;)

By the way, their new mouse handling is very aggravating!

With that said, I'm mostly ready for wednesday.

Well, the system is slightly different during login than it is at character selection and beyond. To add to the fun, they still use DirectInput for the mouse, but only to detect clicks. Mouse position is handled by standard Windows API. So theyre effectively using two completely different systems for the mouse, when they should just use one. This wouldn't really be a problem if it didnt perform differently based on EQ thinking it was in full screen or not. In full screen, EQ basically locks in the mouse so you cant click on any other programs or the window titlebar/borders (for moving, sizing, minimizing, etc), but without restricting the mouse to the EQ window. In windowed mode, it works properly. None of this is something that cant be relatively easily dealt with, it's just making it more of a pain in the ass than it should be.

Why am I not suprised they did not take a stright forward approach with this.

I logged on to test and tried out the new mouse code. I had issues clicking buttons as well unless it was like perfectly centered on a spell gem.

Good times!
