EverQuest.exe has generated errors....

Post by Linkuplushie » Fri Jul 22, 2005 11:38 am

My 1280x1024 monitor stopped displaying images July 6th (in middle of a raid no less!), and didn't have money to replace it at the moment (family problems. won't go into specifics). So... on July 18th I got an old monitor from a friend. I'm stuck on a 800x600 monitor for a few weeks til I can get a bigger monitor. Anywho, this all started when I switched monitors. I ran EQ and changed everything over to 800x600 screen, redid my UI and all. Exited the game, then tried running WinEQ 2.08. I keep getting this message:

************
EverQuest.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program.

An error log is being created.
************

Everquest runs fine by itself.
I've redownloaded and reinstalled WinEQ 2.08, let it patch and all, still get error.
I've reinstalled EverQuest, ran WinEQ, and still get the error.
EQWindows 2.47 generates the same error, if that's worth anything. (used to run that with EQPlayNice before I got WinEQ)
Windows is completely updated.

Only things that have changed since my monitor broke is
1) new monitor with smaller resolution.
2) EQ did a patch or 2 while my computer was down.

I'm at a loss of what to do.

Here's the System Info from *before* I lost my monitor. Haven't been able to get WinEQ to work since then.

Odd that both WinEQ and EQWindows crash. That in itself would point me toward the possibility of problems elsewhere. I would definitely run virus and spyware scans, and check for new ATI drivers. If that doesnt help, try changing your windows desktop resolution and/or color depth. Make sure it's set to at least 16-bit color if not 32-bit, and if it's less than 800x600 for some reason, there might be problems too.

Ran Norton Antivirus, Ad-Aware, and BulletProofSoft (adware remover), and updated my ATI drivers to latest version. I normally run at 32 bit anyhow. Tried 16 bit. It's still giving me the error.

"An error log is being created" ... Yet I can't find where it created an error log.

If I can't figure this out, I'll reformat the computer. Running out of ideas here.

Unfortunately I have no idea why both would crash other than the things listed, or possibly windows system DLLs being incorrect versions. You can try running SFC (system file checker) but I think it just checks DLLs against the version on the windows installation CD and reverts to that if you click yes. Been a while since I used that.

What I want to know is what's up with all the people having issues on Windows 2000 lately ;) I dont usually hear a peep from anyone using Windows 2000, I assume because there's more like 99.5% using Windows XP, but...
