Confused

Post by Pest Control » Wed May 11, 2005 9:15 pm

I am just now looking deeper into using PiP, side by side, etc.

I do Ctrl Alt T and it says Tiny in the game but it only seems to make it go Always on Top.

I looked over and over in the preferences and can not find an entry for Always on Top as a hot key.

I figured this combo was being used for both but don't know why Tiny isn't making the window tiny.

How do I go about making two accounts run side by side too?

I must be blind or the edit feature that should be on this forum is non existant.....

I just tried scroll lock, dragged the semi full screen down, resized it, clicked the window and got the same preferences from shift rclick, selected tiny, and it made the window go back to window "full screen" with always on top enabled.

 Most people are surprised by not having an edit button, and each time my response is the same -- it's gone for good reason and it's better not to edit posts and expect me to realize that it has been edited after I read it :)

At any rate...
Side by side you get by switching back to normal mode and setting the resolution to one of WinEQ's custom resolutions in the in-game list, assuming your desktop resolution is set to 1280x1024 or greater. Smaller resolutions will cause the half-screen resolutions to not appear in the list (EQ hides them if theyre too small). In game, hit Alt+O, click the Display tab, then click Video Modes. If your resolution is 1280x1024, you will see a 1280x512 and a 640x1024. 640x1024 is what you want for side-by-side, or 1280x512 would be split between top and bottotm halves.

As far as Tiny, this is simply a custom window preset, set in your WinEQ 2 settings. Go into the WinEQ 2 settings window for the game you're playing and under Presets, change Tiny to be whatever you prefer. Assuming this is for EQ1, you can have it set to be a scale factor of .2. Other games would require setting a specific resolution instead of a scale factor, because they're smarter ;)

I have desktop at 1280 but there are no settings in EQ display options for those odd resolutions you say.

I'm not quite getting what you mean or you don't understand me about Tiny.

I have seen Tiny work before long ago, but when I use the combo to do Tiny, it says it on screen but doesn't do it. It causes always on top to come on.

You're looking IN GAME, not from the options menu before login? WinEQ adds something like 17 custom resolutions, some of them outrageously big, some of them slightly smaller than your desktop resolution. The split-screen ones will appear in about the middle of the list, just after the huge ones.

What I'm trying to say about Tiny is that it's not a built-in screen "mode". It's configurable. I believe you that you've seen it work, and it will work again, but for some reason your setting may have gotten screwed up. Go into the WinEQ 2 settings (preferences) window, select the game (EverQuest?), and then look under Presets. There are up to 10 presets, 3 of which are set by default -- Normal, Full Screen (Emulated), and Tiny. All of them are configurable, you dont even have to have Normal at all for example. My wife prefers her Full Screen be slightly smaller than actually being full screen, so she has it set to a specific resolution. Select Tiny in the list, and view its settings. Set it to a scale factor of .2, and make sure the height/width are both set to 0 so it will use the scale factor.

bah never mind.

I found it and I dont like it. Stretching from top to bottom half and half squishing my current UI setup.

ok another question...

I read you can drag around the PiP....it seemed like I should turn on the border to do so but how do I actually do it?

I want to have it like a rear view mirror top center.

Yes, the way to do that is to toggle "PiP Lock". The default key for that I think is CTRL+ALT+P. While it is locked, the window that is in picture mode wont change. That means you can drag the pip window around, as long as it has a border at the time :) When you unlock it, it will go back to being normal PiP.

The size and location of the PiP window is profile-specific (depending on the window that is active at the time, not the actual PiP window.. so the same window might be pictured differently on top of your cleric than on top of your warrior, for example). You can actually change its size and location by numbers manually in the profile settings for the active window also.

bah I am still doing something wrong.

The border is greyed out and I am unable to click on it to drag around. If I release the mouse to try and click on the border it just vanishes and goes back to the main window.

I am trying to figure out how to get a window in the other screen.

I use alt tab btw. Pressing 3 keys is stupid :p

Some people set the hotkeys to single keys (numpad for example). Like everything else, configurable in the WinEQ 2 settings window under the game you're playing ;)

If clicking the window makes it the main window, the PIP Lock is not enabled. You need to hit the key in the main window first, then release the mouse, and click on the pip window. No matter what you do to the PIP window while PIP Lock is on (in the current main window), it wont become the main window. Moving or resizing the PIP window during this time will set the option in the current main window.
