Problem with Video Recording

Post by killertofu » Tue Apr 26, 2005 4:22 pm

Alright, I got everything set up so that I could start recording videos easily. When I tried it all out, everything seemed to be working normally. I made a few videos and then I logged out to watch them. However, when I tried to play the various videos, they would not play!

I have Windows Media Player 10, plus I downloaded a .wmv codec pack that someone told me would help, but it didn't.

This is the error message I get:

"Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file."

Anyone help me with this?

Oh yeah, I opened it with GSpot too, but it couldn't tell what codec I needed for some reason. It says that the reason is because the file actually doesn't have any length! When I checked the file itself, it says 0 bytes under size... Same thing for all of them!

Interesting.. you didn't see a popup message that said it could not begin recording? Did it actually say it did start recording, and when you stopped it said it stopped recording? Did you ever see a message about encoding completed, after it stopped recording?

Hmmm... actually no messages popped up while I was recording. I just assumed that it had started because my FPS dropped sharply during the duration. So, no messages =\

Ok. I imagine you also dont see a memory indicator in the upper left, when the memory indicator option is enabled?

If this is the case, you need to uninstall and then reinstall your video drivers (even if it is the same version!), and then hopefully everything should work correctly

I'd prefer a new thread for that, but I'll answer it here anyway ;)

Yes, if you have sound enabled in the video capture, you should hear sound. However, you may need to check recording levels in the volume control (they are separate from playback levels), make sure that the correct device is set for recording, etc. If you have onboard sound and a sound card, you may have to disable the one you dont use.
