advantages over normal alt tabing in windowed mode eq2

Post by guppwupp » Sat Apr 09, 2005 6:54 am

I used to use eqwindows in eq1 alot and 5 mobed a fair bit.. Eq2 is so much more memory hungry though..

I have installed and paid up for the new eqwin2 pro.. but I am wondering being a bit of a techno phobe how I can make it run my game faster than just running 2 seperate instances of eq2.

I have search and looked through the boards here but it seems to me that eqwin2 pro is good at stroing info you give it that could be done by running 2 instances of eq2 from 2 different folders? or am I missing something?

I have a fairly good system 1.5 gig ram, 128 geoforce 6800, but I am still getting low frame rates.. any advice on what to tweak to get the best framerates for 2 insatnces of eq2? Need a hand holding walk thru for a thecnophobe

I need sysinfo.txt to give any real suggestions, but you should run EQ2 from a single folder, and set it to high performance in the game's options screen. Also, it's called WinEQ not EQWin :(

CPU/Framerate limiting is for making the game perform smoothly, and not waste your computer's processing power. For example, imagine you have a huge lake, and you have a small pipe at the bottom which leads somewhere, and water is gushing out the other end of the pipe, for use by people as drinking water, or something. Water is gushing out the pipe several times harder than the people need, and the excess is problematic because people have to clean up the mess it creates. If you reduce the flow of the water to only what people will use, water no longer gushes out faster than they need, and people dont have to do any cleanup work. This is similar to how CPU/Framerate limiting helps. The flow of water (CPU power) is reduced to what the people (EverQuest 2) need, and becomes less messy and more efficient. There may be room to increase the flow of water (CPU power) many few times before it will no longer support more people (EverQuest 2's), but without the limitation, it will be problematic.

thankyou lax.. I am sorry that I call it eqwin.... its wineq :)

AND in fact playing last night for a whole evening eventhough I got some warning of low memory it was A whole lot smoother than before.

I play with both screens overlaying each other and not side by side, I suspose what I there fore should do is shut the ovverlaid screen down to a low framrate and cpu useage.. is there anything wrong with turning the overlaid screen right down?? or will it effect autofollow?

It does affect autofollow, but usually if you have it set to 20+ fps in the background you should be ok.
