Now it sounds like an old issue related to drivers.
Here's a good thread to take a peek at, titled "Graphics lag and no memory inducator", which both describes the issue, and describes the solution

Basically something with your video driver is somehow corrupted, which causes WinEQ to fail to display text and instead causes horrible lag. It's very interesting that you see the text on your secondary display, that's something I would not have expected.
However, my suggestion is to do exactly what game_slave did to solve the problem. UNINSTALL your video drivers from Add/Remove Programs, then DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL THEM again -- even if it is the same version -- and it should tell you to reboot afterward. This has fixed the problem for everyone that has done it.
