Global Activiation Key Problems
My global activation keys are refusing to be set.
As of right now, they are automatically assigned, i.e. whichever session is first is "Crtl+Alt+1", etc.
It will not let me reassign the keys.
I go to Options->Preferences->Everquest->Profiles->Profile 1
Then under Global Activation Key, I erase "AUTO" and put in "Crtl+Alt+2" but it doesn't ever take. I've restarted both sessions, WinEQ, and rebooted the machine, but it never works. It remains listed in the preferences as "Crtl+Alt+2" but the activation hotkey is still assigned according the order the windows are opened in.
What am I doing wrong? I read in another post that this sort of capability was added with the last release.

Okay. I would actually suggest using only one EQ directory in order to get the best performance out of your computer (Windows and your hard drive both have caching mechanisms that dont work if its trying to read the same file from many different places), but that's a different topic entirely.
If you want to set global hotkeys that are the same as are in the list, I would recommend setting the list to something else, or to NONE. That way it's less confusing. If you happened to open 2 of the same profile, one of them would get a hotkey from the list. Then if you opened a session from the one THAT hotkey was supposed to use, that one would use the one from the list as well. What happens is when that profile is loaded, it will first try the global activation hotkey that the profile is set to (it does not have to appear in the global hotkey list). If that cannot be used, it then tries each of the hotkeys in the global activation hotkey list and reserves the first available hotkey. So with using the same as the first four hotkeys, you would have to be absolutely careful that you don't open one twice, etc. I really recommend either setting them to something that's not in the list, or changing the list

I changed the Global Activation Hotkeys to none in the list, and then assigned, per profile, Crtl+Alt+Shift+Q, W, E, R (Each letter for a different profile).
However, now no activation keys work. The assigned ones do not, and as intended, the default ones don't work either.
For some reason, it is refusing to accept the assigned keys.
You've mentioned that Windows reserves some hotkeys. Do you have a list of "safe" hotkeys and key combinations?

Thanks for the quick responses and help. I just picked up a Belkin N52 speedpad and I'm anxious to try it all out.
Is there a forum thread or post that you could point me to with information on why to run all of separate instances off of one copy of EQ? I've heard conflicting information on whether to do this.

I dont have a specific reference, but basically...
If you're using IDE hard drives on the same IDE cable, they both use the same IDE channel resources and you get no extra performance out of using both of them over just one. Then there's hard drive and windows caching, which kick in when you work with the same file. If you're working with separate directories, they wont recognize that it's the same file, because its not
Reading from memory is many times faster (100s or 1000s, I dont recall) than reading from disk, so if the file was used very recently such as zoning at the same time, you're going to gain performance from using the same folder.
Some people will see better performance with multiple directories for one reason or another, but in order to see a chance of a boost from that you would have to be using 2 hard drives on separate IDE channels, and they would have to be old and slow and not have a cache at all... or on separate SATA drives. If you are using two folders on the same hard drive (which I see 2 on each of your drives), you would be better off using a single folder.
Because WinEQ lets you use custom eqclient.ini files, and uses custom eqlsplayerdata.ini files per profile, you can achieve the appearance of actually having two folders, even with using only one. So we've basically eliminated any reasons for using multiple folders.
Anyway, I will be testing your settings today and if I can reproduce the problem I will get it fixed

Activation keys still don't work for me. I changed them in WinEQ-EQ.ini and they show up in the WinEQ2 preferences, but they don't work. As requested here is my SysInfo.txt. I'd really like to get this sorted out
Oh yeah, does turning off vertex shaders make the framerate go up?
