EQ1 ingame memory and lag

Post by Eveage » Fri Feb 08, 2008 11:08 am

I have just recently started back trying to 2 box using WinEQ 2.0 pro. I notice that when I load up even one toon I get system ram avail 685mb/2046mb. When I load the 2nd toon up I get down to 1MB/2046mb. Texture memory seems to be ok staying consistant.. I get a bad chopy and slow reaction lag on primary toon other toon seem to run fine.. I do not tile windows I jump back to and from.
System:
Intel 3ghz
mem 2gig
Video 7950 512meg.

Took all the ingame settings down as far as i can but still experience lag.. anything I need to change in WinEQ?

Your memory is fine. I need to see your sysinfo.txt -- you can get this for me by logging into the game, right click on the game window's title bar (the one that's laggy, preferably), and select "Get System Info" from the list. Then you can paste it here for me. This will tell me the relevant settings so I know what you might want to change. You should never have to change WinEQ settings, the defaults are there for your benefit.

Well, your EQPlayNice settings are default, which is good. Your EQ settings are fine, albeit geared toward high quality, which likely means lower performance. But I don't see anything that would really cause lag on your system from this info.

One thing you may or may not be aware of is that EQPlayNice Pro is doing something called Rendering Limiting, which will cause the appearance of lag or choppiness in whatever EQ windows are not the foreground window. So for example if your "primary toon" is usually the background window, and you SEE it while playing the other character, then it will APPEAR choppy. But, in fact, it is operating at full speed -- it's stopping the video display of the game world to allow the game to move faster. If I had to guess, this is what you're describing as choppiness. And if I had to guess, slow reaction lag might be the autofollow performance. To improve autofollow, go to WinEQ 2 Preferences, and under EQPlayNice, Background, change "CPU Limiter" to "FPS Limiter". This will improve autofollow performance. You can also change the two number 30s on that page to 40 (but leave Rendering Limiter Mode at "1 out of x frames")
