video capture problem in eq2

Post by crux » Wed May 11, 2005 6:14 am

Have a strange problem for ya :)

I can launch EQ2 and play just fine from wineq2.0. I have the overlay showing fps and ram etc. Everthing is ok untill i try and start a video capture. If i try and capture in any resolution using the default settings in wineq2, immediatly after pressing the key to start video capture, it tells me "Capture could not be processed. Capture ended." and my video folder in the wineq2 directory is filled with 0 byte video files, one for every hotkey press. I narrowed this down to my Sound option being set to "on" in wineq2's capture options. With the sound set to "off", when my hotkey is pressed wineq2.exe immediatly crashes with XP's completly ambiguous "WinEQ2.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Any ideas?

No, WMP10 is fine. Interesting that it would crash with sound disabled ...

Can you tell me any changes you made to the video capture configuration? Did you turn pre-shrink off for example? Did you change the width/height?

In my testing, the only time I was unable to capture a video was with pre-shrink OFF and with an odd video resolution in the game.

aye, ive tried all the preset video resolutions with each of the capture settings toggled differently (sound, preshrink, compression, different quality/rates and width/height settings)

They all do the same thing (instantly saying cant capture with 0 byte files) except the sound toggle which crashes wineq2.exe

im setting up another gaming rig today, gonna try it out on that one incase theres a problem with the way i have my codecs setup. I had some video problems awhile back and removed all installed codecs and reinstalled the ones i needed. gspot and sniper show no broken codecs.

I'd be curious if you run into the same problems with Inner Space. It's slightly harder to set up for video capture, but you can test it pretty easily:
1. Install
2. Run game just like with WinEQ (select profile from right-click menu)
3. When the game loads, you have the default WinEQ hotkeys but that's not relevant for this test
4. Hit ` to bring up Inner Space's in-game console
5. Type "Record" and hit enter. It will then say some stuff -- it's supposed to say recording begins but right now it'll say something like invalid command "[Uplink (this is a bug that will be fixed in the next IS update)
6. Wait a second or two, then type "EndRecord" and hit enter.
7. Wait for a response -- as above, it will say something like invalid command "[Uplink after the encoding completes
8. Check the "Videos" folder under Inner Space, and you should have a working video

Record in IS gives me "Recording failed" on the next line in the console, no video file present in videos folder
