EQ1 Framerates. Can anyone offer any...

Post by uevrwndry » Fri Feb 02, 2007 2:35 pm

...suggestions or ideas as to why Im getting such terrible frame rates when I box two toons in EQ1? A few months ago, I used to be able to box two toons in a full raid atmosphere and have great frame rates, and no lag at all. Lately however, my framerates have been around 4-5 for each session and lag is so bad I end up dropping one of the toons just so the other will function properly.

I have tried everything my non-technical brain could come up with: fullly formatting my harddrive and reinstalling EQ, updating all drivers (including chipset and system Bios), checking CPU temp, checking memory sticks for defunctness, playing with the WinEQ settings, playing with the in-game display settings, disabling all non-requires services and background programs..

I have no virus programs or firewalls running to interfere, no spyware...

My tiny brain is out of ideas.

I browsed through the forums here on the same topics and most of the solutions there were things I have tried, so Im hoping one of you guys might have other ideas.

Would turning off EQPlay nice make it better or worse? Any other settings I can play with to improve things or is there something wrong with my Sysinfo? From everything I know (which I'll admit isnt tons), my system should be running two instances like a champ, not a chump. =/

Help a sad girl out please!

There's nothing much left to try that I can think of ;) Disabling EQPlayNice will have a minimal effect unless there's a program running and using 100% of your CPU. Check the task manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL and click the Processes tab) and make sure you dont see some program going crazy. Everything but EQ should pretty much remain at 0% CPU usage, except System Idle Process. They might jump up to 1-2% to do background processing but nothing should be stuck using a lot of CPU.

Everything looks fine there...all background programs still running (I've disabled everything that isnt vital) are at 00, or maybe 01 or so...EQ the only thing with serious CPU usage.

Maybe my computer is just old and tired.

Machine stats look good, I can do 4 toons with a lesser machine...

Here is a question for you though...

You said there is no antivirus on the machine to interfere.

Does that mean you have your av configured around the apps, or no av at all?

If it is no av at all, you may want to find an online av checker and run it, just to make sure.

I have McAfee, but it's configured to run around the program...I think. Doesnt do background scanning, popping up or anything during play times.

I had problems with McAfee and EQ1 in the past I was getting very poor performance with 2 chars. Try disabling that and see if the problem goes away. I use Norton now and have not seen that issue again.
