EverQuest Win 2K3 Server and WinEQ2 Problem

Post by Tenge » Sun Aug 27, 2006 6:20 am

Everquest.exe works when invoked alone but it refuses to work when invoked from the WinEQ program.

The OS log shows

"The application, c:\program files\everquest\eqgame.exe, generated an application error The error occurred on 08/27/2006 @ 14:45:15.366 The exception generated was c0000005 at address 01425900 (<nosymbols>)"

I have used Default Profile for invoking, also tryed some other Profiles that are working perfectly on the same machine but with WinXP as operating system. Moreover tryed playing with CPU affinity|eqplaynice and other features of WinEQ on/off with no results.

On a side note the InnerSpace program works, loaded 4 sessions of the game but experienced random crashes after the 3rd session.

Furter Information:

Clean install of 2K3 Server, April DX9c(tryed August release also), latest certified drivers for all components, framework 2.0, all MS patches and WinEQ2.exe invoked with administrative privileges.

I tryed with older Win2003 and it works, it didnt worked on 2 separate machines with the newer Win2003R2.

Something to do with the DirectX version the R2 have and the File Protection System.

All resolved now :D

Forget what I said about DX9 above.

The real problem was that for Win2003 SP1 & R2 the DEP (Data Execution Prevention) is, when compatible CPU found, by default ON for all programs. Disabling Windows DEP is the solution.
