Cannot drag windows in EQ

Post by sorrowgate » Fri Aug 25, 2006 6:36 pm

I have been using WinEQ! for a few years with 2 of 3 accounts on same computer, with good results. I usually run in full screen emulation and just alt-tab to switch, with PiP on to help. I have read that windows are resizable with mouse and draggable, though the always snap back when I try it. I have just hooked up my Nvidia 6800GT to my 32" LCD TV, and am enjoying the extended display, allowing me to drag a window to the TV, leaving the computer monitor empty for other uses. I thought, ok! Now I can drag an EQ window to the TV, and have another account on monitor full screen. I read that WinEQ2 have 'Unbreakable dual monitor' support, yet when I try to drag an EQ window to the TV, it snaps back to the monitor. I turned border on and position lock off, to no avail. If this is a feature, please tell me what to do, I have read all I can find and tried dozens of things. I am quite computer literate, having built many systems. I just can't solve this one.

Thanks

The problem is that you CANNOT drag a Direct3D display to your TV from your monitor and have it hardware accelerated (this is just how it works, it cant be done seamlessly in all cases no matter what, because say you have two video cards.. all of the video resources for the game reside on one, and the application (e.g. EQ) itself must reallocate any of those resources on the other video card in order to move it). WinEQ 2 know this, so it snaps it back for you. Even if it let you, you would get maybe 5fps tops. The trick is that you actually have to set it to use the secondary display (i.e. your TV). Do this in the WinEQ 2 profile -- you will want to have a separate profile for launching on the secondary display.

If you use Hydravision or DualView, those need to be disabled -- multiple monitor support is built into XP.

Not something I would expect everyone to know, sorry for the confusion. :)

Thank you for the excellent explanation. It is a good feeling to find such professional help for a tricky problem. I can always use the TV for a browser window to support gaming.
