Task Swithching out of eq
Hi, Ive recently purchesed a new systemt thats running an amd 3800 dual core chip. I have an nvidia 6800 pcie card. When im running everquest and try to task switch to another progam or to another instance of eq im expirencing 20-30 seconds of what i can best describe as my cpu freezing. When everquest in minimized everything runs lightning fast. Ive installed all the latest drivers and fixes that I could find to try and correct this. Any help would be great
Thanks
Thanks

Looks pretty normal.
I cant imagine why you'd experience a 20-30 second delay when switching apps, honestly. You say "the latest drivers and fixes"
What drivers, specifically, have you installed?
Did you get the latest chipset drivers for your motherboard (which is probably the most important thing here), or are we basically just talking about the video card and sound card or such?
Have you scanned for viruses/spyware?

I just double checked to make sure that i had everything. I have newest amd drivers avail ( posted nov 2005 ) have newest drivers for my MB Ati xpress 200 ( were posted sometime in 06) Have the current nvidia drivers . Sorry i dont know the exact version numbers of them. Just know that Ive updated em all

While that would be funny, it's probably not related to the video card.
It might be another program using too much CPU time, so check your task manager and look for programs using 50% cpu time (one of your 2 CPUs full time) the whole time, etc. It could also be a driver going crazy for some reason, not sure.
Past that, the only things that come to mind are driver conflicts with the windows kernel..

Well im going to bump this to see if anyone maybe has some new insight into what the problem maybe. Since the orignal problem Ive gotten rid of the dual core chip and went with an AMD athlon 64 3700+. This orignally fixed my problem till the first reboot then it went right back to lock up when task switching out of eq. Im running Media Centre edition ( could that be the problem) other then that im downloading a copy of vista to try and have a copy of xp home. Dont really want to install a new o/s tho but It seems that maybe my copy of MSE might be the problem.
Thanks in Advance

Yes that could be the problem. As I recall the media center edition had alot taken out that could be causing conflicts when eq tries to do something. Try the Home. I have heard Vista is great for EQ if you can find drivers for your stuff.Im running Media Centre edition ( could that be the problem) other then that im downloading a copy of vista to try and have a copy of xp home.
