I have amd 2.6gig with 1 gig of mem
running wineq2 pro
when i have one session going I only have like 256 meg of ram left to run the other
when i run 2 sessions i get down into the 2-3 meg of free mem left which makes it hard to do anything.
I thought the old eqplay nice managed eq mem consumption.
is there something i need to do to allow wineq2 pro to manage mem consumption?
turned most modles off, set everything to minimus display wise.
mem usage problem

EQPlaynice does not do any memory management, what it does is control EQ's processor usage.fllufstar wrote:I have amd 2.6gig with 1 gig of mem

Each session of EQ seems to be taking somewhere around 400 to 500mb of RAM. That is on top of Windows usage which may start at 125mb for a fresh install, it can easily go up to 200+ if you have a few things running in the background. So 200mb for Windows +500mb for your first session of EQ and you are right about 256 left like you said.
If you reduced EQ's memory footprint down to around 300 to 400 you would be able to get two sessions on 1gb of ram, but it is increasingly difficult to get EQ down to something that small. Each of the last 3 expansions has increased the memory footprint by about 25 to 30mb, for a total increase of around 80-100mb. You could also look at reducing how much memory Windows is using.
If you would like, you can right click on the title bar of your first wineq session and select Generate System Info. Included in that information is quite a few of the EQ options that impact memory usage. Take a look at that or post here for more information.
Re: mem usage problem
I've run 4 sessions on 1GB, but you have to pare down the memory usage by creating custom profiles for each character session. Then change the in game graphics settings to use the minimum possible.fearless wrote:EQPlaynice does not do any memory management, what it does is control EQ's processor usage.fllufstar wrote:I have amd 2.6gig with 1 gig of mem

For example: I keep the main character at 1600x1200, but change the settings for the other 3 characters to 600x400 or 800x600. no sound, no luclin graphics, default UI and so on.
I also run in 16bit graphics when I multi-box. If I run just one client I will go to 32bit sometimes.
This has a lot to do with what zones you are in as well. The newer expansions have considerably larger zone files etc.
There are also some steps you can take in windows by shutting down unwanted services etc, to free up some RAM. If you guys think it would be usefull, I would be willing to put together a guide on how to do it.

how to do
I think if you have a certain way to make 1 gig of ram run smoothly, that would be real good of you to show the rest of us how to do. I know last time I ran the program so long ago, I aways had low memory issues. Now I know why. Just due to the sheer memory usage. Might just have to go and get another gig. But a guide would be real nice.
Thanks in advance.
