Dual video cards

Post by jakevsnake » Fri Mar 24, 2006 2:51 am

I am wondering if there is a way to have each profile of WinEQ2 run on a specific graphics card? I have an SLI setup that I dont run in SLI mode 95% of the time since doing so reduces me to one monitor instead of using the two I have. So its been my big question to find out if there is a way to utilize both cards at the same time in this manner. Its a hard pill to swallow when you realize you went the SLI route when it seriously inhibits the way you want your computer to function.

Not sure if I am being clear enough on what it is I want to do. I want to use each card to run seperate instances of EQ which I am hoping will increase the FPS on each instance rather than having to share video processing power. I have a dual core system with 2gb ram also.

Not that I'm aware of. I have a SLI mobo but I only use one video card, rather than using SLI mode, so I'm not quite an expert on little things that you can do with SLI.

You should post sysinfo.txt (Get System Info if you right click on the game window's title bar, or found in the WinEQ 2 folder), so I can see how the video cards are being reported. If it's reporting it as 2 adapters, you can probably use the secondary display option in a WinEQ 2 profile to pick the secondary one.

Im at work atm but Ill try to post that when I get home. I do use the primary/secondary thing to place the windows on each monitor but I may be thinking of something other than what you are talking about. I stopped using WinEQ2 a few months back but it has once again shown me its usefulness and I am once again a loyal customer :)

Ok. The question is if both monitors are attached to the same video card or not. If they are, then we're probably just selecting between the two adapters on the same video card, rather than the 3rd and 4th adapters which may or may not be available on the second video card. The system info list should clear that up

Here is my system info. I currently have both monitors connected to just the primary video card since I believe this is a restriction of SLI.

If that is indeed a restriction, then there is no way to do it.

On the other hand, Windows is showing 3 video adapters, and it may be possible to hook a monitor up to the other card.

Well I found out that hooking up each monitor to a seperate video card DOES improve my FPS when boxing.. I dont get anymore lag than i normally would on one box. So I am happier with the money I spent on my SLI rig afterall. Now multitasking games will be as nice as multithreaded apps.

Lax, I did notice something since i started using WinEQ2 again. Sometimes the sky and the ground in EQ1 would get overlayed on top of each other making the ground impossible to see. When I had both monitors hooked to one card it only affected the primary display, but now that I setup each monitor to be on separate cards it is happening on both monitors. I just noticed this after my default WindowsXP screensaver was up and I clicked back into windows and refreshed my EQ instances. Not sure if this makes sense to you or not or if anyone else is having this issue. Closing EQ and restarting it fixes it.

Weird. The unfortunate thing about that is that WinEQ 2 doesnt change anything about EQ's rendering, so that has to be a bug in EQ, Direct3D, or your video drivers. I'd probably point the finger at EQ. Try changing various video/graphics options in EQ and see if anything changes it. Perhaps disabling complex sky might help
