EQ2 Question

Post by WarDave » Tue Nov 16, 2004 9:19 am

Has anyone tried running two eq2 accounts to see how it runs more then one on the same system? I have a 2ghz with 1.5 gigs of ram and a 128 meg video and was thinking of getting a 2nd copy to try it out..

Hi guys,

a few days ago I had the same question, and was hoping someone would reply to the thread, although I grew impatient, and went out and bought a second copy anyway. Guess whatt? It's very playable.

Here are my specs.

ATI 9800 Pro set up for dual monitors (card has 128 megs of ram)
AMD Barton 2500
1.5 Gigs of Ram
SB Live

Both instances run on their own moniitor, and can resize both by dragging the mouse so it fill most of the area.

Both instances run at the default "Very High Performance" option under the ingame display properties. "Extreme Performance" was just too ugly.

On the 2ndary monitor I have my Priest charactert and have the "Letterbox" setting a couple of notches lower.

Overall the performance is pretty good. On the active session I get anywhere between 14-22 frames per second, which is pretty impressive considering the resources this game requires.. Combat is definately doable. With multimonitors to switch sessions I just mouse over to the other session and click anywhere, and that session becomes instantly active.

If both characters are in the city the frame rate can drop blow this, but never enough to make the game unplayable.

I think you would definatley need the one and a half gigs of ram. I

Lax, great program.

Oh one more thing,

My main monitor is a 19 inch with the desktop at 1600x1200 and my secondary monitor is a 14 inch at 1280x1024.

I beleive each windowed instance runs at 1024x766. I was stretching the instance of EQII on the main monitor so that it filled up most of the screen.

I noticed that if you just leave it the default size, the performance gets even better. Sometimes up to 32 FPS. Sure the window is a little smaller, but it works really well.
