Never mind, seems changing resolution in the game does work, just not outside the game.

I have a wierd little problem with a new Vista box (yeah I know..). The problem is, when I start the game, it will just ignore any resolution settings I try to make, it will just force itself to run in 800x600 (and then scales itself up to 1024x768 which is my desktop size).
