EQ1 client limitations and workarounds

EQ1 will resize and reposition the game window at startup, and when exiting from Character Select to Server Select
Solution: Check "Prevent game from repositioning windows" in your ISBoxer Character Set
EQ1 will ignore keystrokes unless it is the foreground window
Solution: Check "Make game believe it is foreground window" in your ISBoxer Character Set

Troubleshooting

Game crashes at EULA screen
Make sure that Windowed Mode is enabled in the game. This can be done in-game or by editing eqclient.ini
Multiple accounts will not launch
Make sure that Windowed Mode is enabled in the game, and also select the "No Patch" profile to launch the game itself rather than the EQ patcher, which may not allow multiple instances of itself. If you used "Add Game" and do not have a "No Patch" profile, point the game at eqgame.exe instead, and modify the Profile through the IS Game Configuration window to pass "patchme" as a parameter to the executable.

Configuring Hotkeys in-game

EverQuest does not provide modern enhancements to its hotkey interfaces, and therefore your ability to do many of the things people do in other games will be limited by the game's design. With some clever tricks, you can work around them. For example, you can play any Character as the leader by using the Hot Character switch notifier feature to broadcast a key to select a specific Hot Button bank corresponding to that Character being the leader.

Configuring Virtual Files

  • eqclient.ini
Stores general EverQuest configuration
  • eqlsPlayerData.ini
Stores account name for login
