Is this allowed by NCSoft?
Yes, multiboxing is allowed by NCSoft as per the User Agreement, the Rules of Conduct, and customer service response.
Whether or not NCSoft will ban for use of ISBoxer with Aion is uncertain at this time, particularly given the apparently crazy bans this past weekend. Please do not use ISBoxer with Aion yet if you are concerned, as this has not yet been established. No game has banned a single player for use of ISBoxer (or any of our multiboxing software since Lavish Software was founded in 2004), and we do hope that Aion does not become the first.
Relevant portions of the User Agreement and Rules of Conduct can be found below. All games have similar documents and similarly worded clauses. The clauses in Aion are actually less restrictive than many other games.
Related User Agreement clauses
- Under "3. License to Use"
- You may not (a) sublicense, rent, lease, loan or otherwise transfer the Software or the Service (or any part thereof), including without limitation serial codes; (b) modify, adapt, reverse engineer or decompile the Software, or otherwise attempt to derive source code from the Software; (c) create any derivative works in respect of the Software or the Service; or (d) otherwise use the Software or the Service except as expressly provided in this Agreement.
- Under "7. Official Service"
- You agree not to use any hardware or software, including but not limited to third party tools, or any other method of support which may in any way influence or advantage your use of the Service which is not authorized by NC Interactive, including but not limited to the use of 'bots' and/or any other method by which the Service may be played automatically without human input. You acknowledge that you do not have the right to create, publish, distribute, create derivative works from or use any software programs, utilities, applications, emulators or tools derived from or created for the Game except that you may use the Software to the extent expressly permitted by this Agreement.
Related Rules of Conduct clauses
- 9. You may not modify any part of the Aion Client, Server, or any part of the official Aion website.
- 20. You will not create, use, or provide any server emulator or other site where Aion may be played, and you will not post or distribute any utilities, emulators or other software tools related to Aion without the express written permission of NC Interactive.
- 21. You may not use any third-party program (such as a "bot") in order to automate gameplay functions, including playing, chatting, interacting or gathering items within Aion. You may not assist, relay or store items for other players who are using these processes.
Known Issues
- More testers are needed to help identify issues!
- Mouse cursor positioning may not work properly when using a window layout with a main region size different than the actual in-game resolution
Frequently Asked Questions
- Will this work around the limitation of 2 clients per PC?
The final answer to this is not yet determined. There is no technical reason for a limitation of 2 clients per PC, so we don't see why not.
Getting Started
- Switch to the development build of Inner Space (see section below) -- Inner Space support for Aion is in development. This will go live within a week or two
- Add Aion to Inner Space (see section below) -- Auto-detection of Aion is not yet added to Inner Space
- Set the NCSoft Launcher to close after launching a game
- Configure using ISBoxer software
- Make sure the NCSoft Launcher is closed
- Launch your ISBoxer Character Set
- Play!
Switching to the Inner Space development build
To switch to the Inner Space development build:
- Right click the Inner Space icon in the system tray
- Select the "Patcher" option from the menu
- Check the "Download development (test) patches" box
- Restart Inner Space and it should patch itself
Adding Aion to Inner Space
- When we near the end of this Beta, auto-detection will be added to Inner Space.
- Right click the Inner Space icon in the system tray
- Select the "Add Game" option from the menu
- Name the game, e.g. "Aion"
- For the "Game Executable" option, click the "..." button on the right, and navigate to NCLauncher.exe from the NCSoft\Launcher folder
Alternatively, if you know what you are doing you can select "aion.bin" from the Aion\bin32 folder to launch the game directly. Doing so will require you to manually edit the Game Profile through the Inner Space configuration window to add the additional parameters that aion.bin requires.
