WinDAOC Official Announcement

Post by Lax » Tue Aug 17, 2004 2:34 pm

Lavish Software is making its first expansion beyond EverQuest. We are nearing the first release of WinDAOC, the WinEQ clone for Mythic Entertainment's Dark Age of Camelot.

As with EverQuest, there are existing windowing solutions for Dark Age of Camelot including a built in windowed mode in the latest client. However, as with EverQuest again, the existing solutions come nowhere near the capabilities of our software. For example, some of the solutions available for DAOC involve patching the software each patch, and must be updated each patch. As WinEQ users know, WinEQ is very resistant to patches and will rarely have this sort of issue. The same goes for DAOC. WinEQ and WinDAOC act as a layer between the game and the Windows API, effectively making a sub-operating system on top of Windows for the game to run on. Therefore, we do not need to directly modify the game or prevent the game from finding any changes to its code with this software.

WinDAOC is based on WinEQ 1.30, the latest version of WinEQ, and has all of its best features. Some features included in WinEQ are not necessary for WinDAOC, such as manual mouse release/recapture.

Dark Age of Camelot does not have a CPU/FPS throttle, so we will also be evaluating the need for an EQPlayNice clone for this game.
