Everquest crashing when I start without EQWin2

Post by GukakKluelezz » Sun Sep 20, 2009 2:49 pm

Earlier today I installed EQWin2 to be used when i 2-box. When I raid, I prefer to run EQ without EQWin, as EQWin changes the size of the window EQ runs in.
I was very surprised when I tried starting EQ normally an hour ago, and it crashed when it was trying to open the Server Select window. I can still run it in EQWin, so I can play, but my UI doesn't match the size of the window that EQWin forces me to use.

Any suggestions please?

Some more info about that crash:

When I start EQ, after patching, normally the screen goes black a few seconds and then the list of servers comes up. I run full screen all the time.

The last two days, when I try to start EQ (still full screen), after patching, the screen goes black as usual - but only for 1 - 2 seconds. Then the EQ window resizes itself, to about 3/4 of full screen. This happens to be exactly the same size as EQWin runs in. After a few seconds more, a small window pops up with a text like "eqgame.exe has found an error and will end." (not the exact text - translates from my language).

Ok - I found the problem by looking at all files in the EQ-dir that was updated on the day I installed WinEQ. When I deleted eqclient.ini, the crash disappeared. When starting up EQ, it had created a new - smaller - eqclient.ini file, and EQ could run (both in WinEQ and normal) with that file. But without the configuration I wanted, so I wan't satisfied with using that new eqclient.ini file.

By playing around with the contents of the eqclient.ini file, I found that the problem is related to the lines:
Width=1152
Height=864
These lines were in the old eqclient.ini file, and when I added them to the new eqclient.ini file, the crash came back.

I used to run EQ on a 1152x864 pixel screen, while WinEQ runs on another size. That must somehow cause the crash. When I removed these two lines from my old eqclient.ini file, everything ran as it should again.
