Flickering only during multiple sessions

Post by Castilonium » Thu May 07, 2009 6:58 am

I have the free version of WinEQ 2, and it works quite well when I'm playing only one session. When I open a second window however, they flicker with odd, blocky/staticy graphics. I don't understand computers very well, but I think it's a rendering problem, and after reading through the help files, I still have no idea how to fix it.

Here's my system info:

You wouldn't find it in WinEQ help files because it doesn't sound like a WinEQ issue, but you're right that it is a rendering problem. It sounds more like a video driver issue, so first of all make sure there's not a new nvidia driver you're missing. Secondly, according to your sysinfo you're running the game at a higher resolution than your actual Windows desktop, which probably contributes to the problem.

You should also try reducing the memory requirements of the game by dropping some Luclin models, as if you run out of system or video RAM, that's not going to help either.

Thanks for the help so far =)

I updated my video driver and tried using smaller video modes, but the same problem persists. The game isn't laggy or stuttery at all, so I don't think RAM is the problem. It just has the rendering problems whenever I have a second EQ window up

I had this same issue in Win7 along with the clients hanging for 3-10 seconds when switching between them. I did two things that were recommended (I didn't narrow down between the two because I kind of liked both changes anyways). I disabled Aero and ran WinEQ in XP SP2 compatibility mode. Not sure what OS you're even running, but if it's the same issue I was having, this might help.

Hi i was wondering if you ever found a solution to this problem im having the exact same problem im getting same graphic glitching only when boxing 2 characters on Everquest. The thing is for me this didnt start till i upgraded from analog monitor to a new 23inch lcd widescreen. Ive tried almost everything you can imagine from upgrading/downgrading drivers, changing vid card settings, new psu, running comp booster programs, cleaning out dust, reinstalling wineq2. I do notice that it gets better if i turn off 2.0, 1.5, 1.0 pixels on both toons and it will reduce the problem alot but i didnt have to do this on old monitor. I use Windows XP so the vista/win7 wont help me, if you found a solution to this problem id love to hear it.
Thanks

The fix, if it is not solved by your drivers, is probably to replace your video card. I don't have anything else to suggest as far as your graphical glitches. If your video card is overheating, or previously overheated a lot, there may be permanent damage causing the glitches. In my experience, this tends to happen naturally after 1-2 years of gaming.
