Screen flickers when running a 2nd instance of wineq2? :(

Post by Marglar » Sat Mar 22, 2008 9:21 pm

I get a lot of background flickering and bleed through when I run two Wineq2's.

Anyone know how to resolve it? tech specs if its relevant

64 bit vista
core 2 duo @ 2.9ghz
4gb ram
8800gt 512mb using the recommended drivers from SOE.

Er.. I don't typically get people asking about background flickering unless they have a Pro subscription, in which case it has to do with EQPlayNice's rendering limiting feature. And I'm not sure what you mean by bleed through.

When it's EQPlayNice's fault, what you would see on the background session is the game world updating about once a second, and the UI would appear flash.

As a Lite user I don't know what to suggest, but you can start by posting sysinfo.txt -- you can get this by right clicking on the game window's title bar, and selecting Get System Info. It'll open up in notepad, after which you can paste it to me here or in email to lax@lavishsoft.com, and maybe I'll see what's happening.

Thanks for the reply. I will definitely buy at least one 3 month sub if you can offer a fix!

oh, and when I say "bleed through", I mean during the flickers, I can kind of see stuff from the 2nd eqw in a pixelated form.

Unfortunately I can't guarantee anything with your 2005 version of EQ, as I don't support emulated servers.

However, this DLL sticks out to me:
Module 53: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Logishrd\LVMVFM\LVPrcInj.dll

A quick google search indicates that this file is from Logitech webcam software (QuickCam), and causes problems with various applications, because it sticks itself in every loaded process and apparently does some things that may be incompatible with those applications. WinEQ 2 may be affected. Try disabling or unloading that software and see if that helps.

No worries! I only happen to use this app for an emulated EQ server, but I appreciate your help.

I uninstalled the software and verified that the DLL is no longer present, but no luck :[

Can you think of anything else that might be causing it? I am azed out of all the DLL's loaded you were able to single that one out.

Is there anything in the pro version that might resolve this?

No, I wouldn't recommend upgrading to Pro if the Lite version is not working for you, as it won't solve this particular problem.

I don't know what else to suggest other than trying newer video drivers. I know you said you're using SOE recommended drivers, but in general that's the "minimum" and subsequent releases of the driver SHOULD be fine. They may have fixed bugs related to the issue you're having, so I guess this is my best suggestion.

There's nothing else in your diagnostic information that looks abnormal, so it would have to be something else entirely. It's either a) incompatibility simply because it's a 2005 version of EQ, or b) something installed (or not installed, which is usually drivers, directx updates, or windows updates) on your computer. So if the driver thing doesnt help, you can always try installing the latest update to DirectX 9, the last of which was this month: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en
