EverQuest game instance issues

Post by Larhleolynx » Wed Jan 16, 2008 9:35 pm

Hi there. I haven't played EverQuest for around 6 months, back then I was running Windows XP and had no issues with WinEQ2 running flawlessly. I'm now back to the game but I'm using Vista 32bit. Oddly WinEQ2 doesn't like something that has been changed. Either the games code, my PC, or something else, perhaps hardware? When I can get the game to load into the game, which is about 50% of the time. I can play fine, I never crash. But my instances of EQ lockup while zoning, or loading into character select. I get a nice (Not Responding) message in the title bar, and it won't budge. Below is my sysinfo.txt Help!

I believe I have rigged it to work, I'll have to run the game for awhile like it is, to see if the problem still occurs. I've put the EQ exe file and the WinEQ exe into compatibility mode with WinXP(SP2) It seems to have resolved the not responding issue. I will post again later to update!

Well, the compatibility mode has fixed probably 50% of the (Not Responding) issues I've had. But I'm still having issues getting onto the world servers, and zoning. Does anyone have any suggestions? Could it be the EverQuest servers and their login services? Its just a pain to spend an hour trying to login to play, then zone and get kicked off... Please help, if possible.

When it's showing Not Responding during loading the game initially and during zoning, it should actually be fine -- the window just isn't re-drawing, and won't until zoning is complete. I'll have to do some digging to find out why this happens; I had to implement a workaround originally for it to work right, and that started crashing about a year ago. I'm not sure why you would get kicked off though, this sounds odd.

Can you post a sysinfo.txt for me? You can get it by launching a WinEQ 2 session, right click on the game window's title bar, and select Get System Info from the list. Some diagnostic information will pop up, and may reveal the cause of your problems. You can post it here, or if you prefer to keep some of it relatively private, email it to lax@lavishsoft.com.

Here you go. I'm sorry I thought I posted the relevant info already. But I see its different. Makes sense, the program has to be running to calculate whats being used. I just thought the file in the WinEQ folder was a log.

Also, thank you for looking into this Lax.

Also, before I forget. I do have 2 ATI video cards setup in Crossfire in this PC. I do not have crossfire turned on while playing EverQuest. However I have not tried to run it with crossfire enabled. Any idea if it would be stable. I know a lot of MMO's are not coded for two or more videocards.

Oh, actually I don't know what I was thinking, the original post should have been sufficient, I just forgot you posted the sysinfo.txt already ;)

Your Crossfire setup should not be a problem -- you can definitely TRY running it in Crossfire mode, and it should very well be stable. This will not change the problems you're reporting though.

The first thing I have to recommend is shutting down all other programs, just to see if one might be interfering for some reason. For example, in your sysinfo, I can see that Kaspersky Internet Security is running, and it injects DLLs into the EverQuest process. It's possible that it is somehow interfering, so you should at least give it a try without that running.

Also, be aware that if you click on the window while it's zoning and "not responding", or probably various other things, it MAY pop up a window that asks if you want to close the app or wait for it -- as it is most likely still running (it's just doing a lot of file reading), you should wait for it if this pops up.

Hello again,

As an update, Kaspersky wasn't causing the issue of disconnects. Took me awhile to figure out what the problem was, but I believe it to be my DSL modem. I think its slowly dying, so I contacted my ISP and their sending me a new one.

I figured it was something going on with WinEQ and my PC, because of the (Not Responding). But it was two separate issues. Hopefully I have both fixed now. Just waiting for the modem. I'll update again once I get the new modem.

Thanks Lax.
