Low quality textures on EQ1 after patch 4th October 2007

Post by skinniriath » Thu Oct 04, 2007 4:12 pm

I run 2 accounts on my machine using WinEQ 2.0 Lite. The profiles are not set to patch so after todays patch I run the EverQuest.exe from each account directory to update the files and then exit before running the WinEQ2 profiles to launch the accounts.

If I launch the accounts using WinEQ2 the textures are very low quality (blurred) when I log into the game. This occurs even if I turn patching on in the profiles. However, if I login using without using WinEQ2 the graphics and textures are all displayed OK.

I am in the process of updating my video drivers (just in case).

Here is the contents of my SysInfo.txt

The problem was resolved by reselecting the appropriate resolution in the video mode options of EQ1. It would be nice to know why this was necessary but all is well.

Sorry this has been resolved for one account but not the other. The other account will now not display the textures everything is grey. This includes the background in the character selection window and occurs even if the other account is not running.

If I log in as this char without using WinEQ it loads and plays correctly even if the other account is running and using WinEQ. So I do not think that it is related to video memory.

This is annoying as I cannot switch between the windows using hotkeys (which is the feature I use most from WinEQ).

Thanks

Hello, i am having the same problem with using Win Eq 2 after todays oct 4th patch , it will load up fine, no problems, no crash, but the world has no textures, all you see is characters.. nothing else.

If i just load it up normal (sonys regular launcher) it works fine and dandy .

So im not sure what they messed with, but any help would be greatly appreciated. I really love your program, it makes boxing much easier.

I have the same issues.

I was able to resolve the low quality texture problem by reselecting my screen resolution. Options->Display->Video Modes

I was able to resolve the gray blur out by turning off dynamic lighting. Options->Display->Advanced->Use Dynamic Lighting

Hope this helps everyone get back to playing while the root cause is investigated.

As above clicking on the Video Mode above fixed one of my accounts but to fix the other I had to delete the following files from my EQ directory (one of which must have become corrupt).

I'm not sure how this only affected when starting under WinEQ2.0 (maybe the defaults in eqclient.ini are missing the options for dynamic lighting).

Anyway here are the files I deleted and next time I logged in all was fine.

eqgfx_dx8.dll
eqgame.exe
eqclient.ini
eqgraphicsdx9.dll

I got this list from an EQ knowledge base article. (here is the link)

Thanks

You are corrrect, i loaded in , with the black world .. went to the options, advanced, clicked off use dynamic lighting .... and BAM , graphics back to NORMAL !

Thank you for finding this , although it still does not explain , why this is only an issue with Wineq .....

If i boot up without wineq , i did not have this black world issue. (even with lighting on)

Clicking on the video resolution only acts as a temporary workaround. Each time I login I get poor textures and have to reset my resolution to get a good picture.

At least I dont have to do it everytime I zone.

My graphics seem to be good, except for a slight gray blur on my windows and hotbuttons.. and some world textures.. until I do the above suggested temp fixes; but it still reverts to the greying when I relog

Well, for one thing... they apparently changed the meaning of the TextureQuality values stored in eqclient.ini. Previously, 0 meant HIGH, 1 meant MEDIUM and 2 meant LOW. According to their options editor (optionseditor.exe), 1 now means HIGH, 2 means MEDIUM, and 3 means LOW.

In the OP's case, WinEQ is reading the TextureQuality as LOW, so I can tell you the number is either 2 (previously LOW, now MEDIUM), or the setting isn't set.

For the rest of you, I'd have to see your sysinfo.txt
