Available Texture memory 0 and freezes.

Post by Damion » Sat Apr 02, 2005 5:35 pm

I recently started playing EQ again after a 3 months break. But after I came back i seem to have some serious issues in some zones when running 2 sessions on one machine.

When zoning to basically any OoW zone, available texture memory drops to 0 mb and I start having freezes on the computer for 10-15sec, then it resumes to normal working mode.

I didnt have this problem back in December when i stopped playing. On the very same setup.

Any idea what could be wrong?

Im using Gforce 4 TI4600 128mb Graphics card, 1.3gb Ram.

Keep in mind that the game is constantly under development, so there's no guarantee that a system that had no problems last year will continue to work the same this year. My best suggestion without having any more information (SysInfo.txt may help) is to reduce the amount of texture memory you're using, or increase AGP Aperture Size in BIOS (see http://www.lavishsoft.com/bios.php )

Im using low quality on all settings. Only have 2 models + horses on.

Here is sysinfo.txt.

You're using extremely old video drivers, I would highly recommend installing newer ones from nvidia.com. http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_71.84.html

That may fix your problem, but... according to DirectX, you have only 118MB of available texture memory at the time of this sysinfo.txt -- that's including the 128MB on your card and whatever AGP Aperture. If this SysInfo.txt is from having a single session up, I would guess that the setting is actually set to 64MB rather than 256MB. If it's from two, I would guess that it's set to 128MB.

Sadly, I know that my GFX drivers are old. But my GFX card wont allow me to update drivers to anything beyond 53.03.

If I install drivers higher than that, DX cant find DXdraw and DX3d acceleration according to DXdiag and all applications using DirectX wont work.

Oh well, I guess nothing can be done about the problem then. Good thing im heading out to buy a new computer next month. I had just hoped to be able to 4 box with the new computer and this combined.

Thanks for your assistance.

With a ti4600 I would assume you could run the latest drivers, I'm using one in one of my test machines here actually, and it worked fine with DX9.0c and the 71.84 drivers and Windows XP SP2. I bet you could get it working on your machine for at least 2-3 instances of EQ (4 will be stretching it with 1.2GB of RAM, but you should be fine doing 3) by doing a fresh installation of XP SP2, DirectX and latest video drivers. Sometimes that's not an option but if you're buying a new machine anyway you could always try it after you get that set up.

Ive tried reinstalling and doing new drivers countless times.

I beginning to think its because i got a bad GFX card or something. It wont under any circumstances take any driver over 53.03. I must have tried 20 different ones by now, including the guru drivers - also after reinstalling win2k / winxp fresh.
