Issue with lag

Post by RobRaider » Mon Dec 20, 2004 4:14 pm

WinEQ 2.05 lite works great for EQ running two characters in groups, but horrible lag if I try to use it on raids. Is using the software for two cahracters on a raids (35-50 toons), asking too much from the software or is the problem my dial-up connection?

AMD 1900 1g Ram, ATI 9800 Pro 128mb using dial-up

from SysInfo:
System Physical RAM: 605/1023MB
Page File: 1987/2461MB
Virtual Memory: 1050/2047MB (Extended: 0MB)
CPU 1: AMD Athlon(tm) @ 1193MHz

EQPlayNice:
-----------------------------------
EQ Version: eqgame.exe Dec 16 2004 17:15:50
Foreground
Mode: FPS Limiter
Max FPS: 40
Rendering: 1/1
Background
Mode: CPU Limiter
Max FPS: 30
Rendering: 1/30

or do I just need to adjust my settings?

I dont know, you didn't give me all of the information. For example I know absolutely nothing at all about your EQ settings because you left them out of your paste... My recommendation is to turn off all luclin models, but I dont know if you already have them off.

I have tried all the luclin models off except what I need for my ride, sounds off, sky off, clip plane down, names off, etc.

Even though I have 6 different profiles i created, only one shows in the SysInfo file. Is that normal?

Yes, that's normal because SysInfo.txt is created when you run EQ, and it's created with the current information.

I don't see anything particularly bad about your settings, and WinEQ doesn't adversely affect game performance. The only bad point about your system itself is the processor speed -- it's showing a clock rate of about 1200MHz, where an Athlon XP 1900+ should actually be 1600MHz. 1200MHz would be an Athlon XP 1400+, which don't exist -- so I'm going to say that your processor is underclocked by 33%, and this would result in worse performance. Typically this will happen when your BIOS settings get reset. What you need to do is go into BIOS and change the CPU frequency from 100MHz to 133MHz. If you don't know your way around BIOS to do that, I would recommend finding a friend that knows what to do or can walk you through it. This is most definitely the first thing I would fix if I were you.

Past that, it depends on which type of lag you are experiencing. If you're getting full speed video and the problem is that spells don't cast immediately, people move in spurts, etc then it's definitely connection speed. Any time you're playing multiple characters on dialup you will experience this particularly when zoning or around a lot of people. You can change "datarate.txt" to have the number 2.5 or 3.0 or so (if it's already lower, dont increase it) and that should help as well. I believe it defaults to 5.0, which is supposed to mean 5k/sec. That's for one session, though, so if you are running 2 it's going to be too high if both are near peak usage.

If the lag you are experiencing is video lag, such as choppiness if you hold down left or right to turn your character, then you want to look for CPU or video card-related issues.

Let me know if this helps
