Need Help LAX wineq/wow keeps crashing

Post by davoreno » Thu Jun 30, 2005 11:26 am

LAX,

Been trying to get wineq2pro to fire up more then one instance of world of warcraft.

It will randomly crash at different times for no apparent reason. I am trying to run anywhere from 2-3 instances. It will sometimes crash the second i load up a second instance. It will sometimes crash after 15 minutes of having all 3 instances up.

I have tried it on two different computers and the same thing happens.

Perhaps I am not loading the second instance properly. The way i do it now is just click on the wineq tray icon> and select> world of warcraft and then load> another wineq2 default profile.

I notice in the winwq2pro options>prefremces>>world of warcraft>profiles you can save different paths to tell wineq to load that profile from another directory but i can't seem to ever select anything other then default profile.(reason i ask is i have tried creating seperate wow installs to see if that would fix the problem.)

I have done the following on BOTH computer i have and no luck.

1. Downloaded latest ati drivers
2. Downloaded latest sb drivers
3. Downloaded latest BIOS drivers.

This is driving me nuts. Can you please help me figure this out. I will attach sysinfo from the computer I primarily want to do this with.

here it is:

sorry forgot mto add....

when I say crash I mean the following that the screen will freeze and sound will lockup and the only way to restart is to hit the reset button...

OR

the computer will restart itself.

I have yet to see an actual BSOD.

What kind of crash are we talking here? One instance of WoW crashes to desktop? Computer blue screens and/or reboots?

You're loading WoW just fine. If you want to use another profile, you need to give it a name or it wont be listed :) I dont think separate WoW installs will help, and I would advise against that, but you are free to give it a try just in case.

To make sure these arent part of the problem, check the following:
1. Download latest motherboard chipset drivers (e.g. VIA or Intel, or whatever the motherboard is using)
2. Virus scan and spyware scan (use Microsoft Anti-Spyware if possible)

Now I see your post that you're flat-out locking up. I would make sure to check all of your fans to make sure they're still spinning at full speed; you could be overheating something

Downloaded the latest chipset drivers for MB.

Checked to see if any fans aren't going.. they are all workinng fine and comp temp seems normal.

Still locking up.

Any other ideas?

Well did the spyware scan... of course i found a few minor things and removed them.

Did not stop the crashing.....

good news is i think figured out what it is.

I was boggled as to why same thing would happen on both my computers... so i came up with the one and only thing that is common between the two.

the sound card.

creative sb audigy 2

it would seem that your program doesnt like it.

I have been running 3 instances since i yanked the card for well over an hour now and no crash. never got past 15 minutes or so before. Anyways onboard sound it what im reduced to because of it.

Any way you could check it out would love to be able to slap the audigy back in and have this program work.

Hmmm interesting that would be the case for you. However.... my wife's computer is using SB Audigy 2 (mine uses Audigy 1), and she plays WoW religiously with WinEQ 2. And she plays two accounts at the same time relatively often. So, I don't think it's that WinEQ 2 doesn't like SB Audigy 2, but possibly something related to drivers.

I know you said you had the latest drivers, but I'm wondering if the crash issue with Windows Update's Audigy driver applies to audigy 2. What was happening before at least with Audigy 1 is that if you installed the Windows Update to the driver (from the iwndows update site of course), it would crash. I had to roll back the driver and uninstall the windows update, then install the audigy driver cleanly. This may also be the case here. At the very least, I would try uninstalling the Audigy 2 driver, and then reinstalling it

Well it's definitely the creative driver.... played all night without crashing using onboard sound.

I tried uninstslling the driver thru controlpanel>system and reinstalling the driver but it still seems to crash.

How can i get rid of the windows update portion? and what driver are you guys using with the audigy 2?

well....... got it to work. kinda.

this is what i did.

uninstalled sb driver.

instead of dl driver from net used driver that came with card from cd.

works BUT now it has disabled my damn norton autoprotect. If i recall the reason i had installed the driver from windows update in the past is because i was having the same problem with it disabling norton autoprotect.

so now i got wineq working with no crashes but norton is screwed.

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

any ideas? and thanks again for your help.

Well, you should be able to download the driver from soundblaster.com and it should work better than the one on the CD. The windows update driver is a different version and is just problematic

Yeah the problem is with the one you download is that it preety much crashes like the windows update one.

Anywyas got norton fixed just had to go into msconfig and turn off some creative drivers from loading at startup.

so at this phase wineq is working with the audigy card and norton is working too.

Happy endings and thanks for your help.
