This sounds similar to the error I've been experiencing, too, except I've changed my switch session hotkey.

Same problem, Everquest 1. Window goes black and completely unresponsive when I foreground it or when I change it from windowed to emulated full.

I sometimes box as many as 6 toons on one pc, and even when playing one I'm nearly constantly swapping windows and resizing...seems to happen with about the same frequency (once every 5 hours maybe?) and be unrelated to how many sessions I'm running or resourse use.

Code: Select all

(small update after reading some other posts here)
I'm having NO trouble 2+ boxing, nor seeing anything particularly mem-leakish like sessions getting "boggy". I'm pretty sure I've had the black screen hit me while still looking at the EULA screen.

you could try 1.38 if you are running mq2 (might want to make sure your moveutils plugin is updated too, it's on mq2 website
wineq2.x has playnice built in, so you don't mq2fps either)

Updated or not tho, there is problem with mq2 and win2.x

I've tested it with 8 different systems.

Amd 64, Pent4 3.x, different MB's, ATI , NV . Made no difference.

Single char with wineq2.5 , ran for 40hours. No problems.

Run two chars. switch screens, or just sit there at EULA, will crash either one or both screens

( I can post the sysinfo.txt for them, but there aren't any errors or anything different what I posted before)

Not sure what MQ2 is but I'm having this same exact problem since going to my NVIDA video card. I can play one window no problem....load up second I get black screens or unresponsiveness until I alt-enter, then it either works or it crashed everything. No idea where to go from here.

So I've been testing some, fired up ole EQWINDOWS 2.47(no not plugging old software), but just to test. Fired up multi windows and no problem at all logging multi box and or alt/tabbing. So this definitely is NOT a EQ or Driver problem. There is some conflict going on with the program somewhere.

Maliki2 , try wineq1.38 , from reading, Lax is working on fixing this problem.

He's been doing a great job with updating and tech support. When he comes out with update to 2.0x test it out, see if it's fixed.

For now tho 1.38 is very stable, but missing all great stuff he put into 2.0x

I'm actually replacing WinEQ 2.0 because of certain problems. The reason people are having troubles with it in EQ1 is almost solely because of the EQ plugin's multithreading for the input system.. so that won't be making a comeback ;) Anyway, more as things develop

I am having same problems with WinEQ2 boxing to EQ1 accounts. Tho i am running WinEQ2 on 2 PCs, nearly same equipped, nearly same Software/Drivers installed, on one its running pretty smooth, on the other i am getting a client crash after a few mins, always while switching.

So i thought i can maybe help ya, to narrow the source of the problem down, cause there are in fact only 3 differences between the 2 systems.

The PC where its working:
- AMD 2600+/266
- Norton 2003 Antivirus/Firewall
- ATI Radeon 9700 Sapphire with original Catalyst, newest Version

The PC where i keep crashing:
- AMD 3000+/333
- Panda Platinum 7.0 Antivirus/Firewall
- ATI Radeon 9700 Sapphire, but with Omega Driver, newest Version

Besides this, everything else is identical!

Hope this helps in some way.

SysInfo.txt might show different modules loaded on your systems as well.

also got some blackscreens while switching between sessions.

i got rid of them the following way:

putting game itself (without wineq of course) into windowed mode (not the ingame-button, but with alt+enter).

When loading EQ via WinEQ I chose "Normal"-Profile (instead of Fullscreen emulated) and now everything works great!

Using Fullscreen emulated regularly crashed EQ while switching sessions but this may be a Problem within EQ itself, DirectX, Graphicsdriver,... because these blackscreens i also got after release of GoD before some patches when switching between windowed and fullscreen mode (without wineq!).

So: Great work done lax!

A few days I quit having this problem...it just went away :/

I've been going about my business as usual, and haven't had a blackscreen since right after I posted I was having the same issue. :?
