Interesting news from Test

Post by mdar » Tue Jul 20, 2004 7:24 pm

- The EverQuest process is now more friendly. There is also a slider bar to set your Max. FPS. in the Options window under display settings. This will free up more resources while running EQ. Also, when EQ loses focus it will use less resources.

And it has only taken them 7 months and 20 days since EQPlayNice was first distributed. Oddly enough they've also borrowed some of my other software features recently (showing mana numbers, buff time left in the UI)

EQPlayNice has features coming that improve foreground framerate soon. :)

not to mention that you, Lax, told them exactly how to fix that problem that long ago. buncha slackers over there.

The ONLY reason that SOE fixed it is because Lax went to a payment system for his software, can guarantee if it remained free, you would never have seen this patched into EQ. Gotta love how the big money makers work don't ya? lol

I'm pretty sure the reason is that the devs/GMs themselves used it, and they did not want to sign up here when they could just put its current features in EQ instead. They put it off until now because they could get it with no hassle and no work ;)

No matter. EQPlayNice will live on, and with new features. Have fun :)

All I have to say is. Dont relent. Keep them on their toes. Make them work hard to keep the game up to your skills, not your skills up to the game :)

Yah Lax, not that they didn't already have the functionality to show buff timers and mana, you just made a work around to display it when they chose not to. You work to demystify the game, and in turn, have forced them to comply. That's truly something to be proud of.

"Post hoc, ergo propter hoc" is a great world to live in, I'm sure.

That being said, what's on Test now is not very impressive, to say the least. EQPN works much better.

so my question is, does SOE's new feature make EQ run better or on equal terms than with Lax's software?

won't run as good

Post by toptek » Thu Jul 22, 2004 4:43 pm

Look at it this way EQ windowed mode still doesn't run as good as
EQW can you imamge once WinEQ really gets to the point were LAX only has to release it once a month or so. so that means even EQplaynice will be the same. EQs in game eqplaynice won't be as good as the real eqplaynice . i think the only way that would happen is if LAX worked for them. :)))

just a thought

You don't want Lax working for Sony. Then he wouldn't get to do what he/we want. He'd have to be doing what some management know-nothing wants.

Better to have him working for us!

WinEQ and Eqplaynice will give him what he wants. and When EQ 2 and WoW comes out more will use his product.
